When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
This quote was a great motivator for me and still is. Using my experience as a runner and my desire to find a cure for cancer I created “Richard’s Run for Life” under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Creating Richard’s Run was a way to fulfill this goal of finding a cure.
- Richard Gonzmart
Each year the Tampa Bay community gets together to run for life through the streets of Ybor City.
2,000 participants took to the streets of Ybor City in this annual road race to support cancer research. Many more came to lend their support in this important cause.
One hundred percent of every dollar donated and raised will benefit the Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) Program for Sarcoma Research at Moffitt Cancer Center.
See you next year. Please mark your calendars for Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.
It is hard to believe it's been 13 years since I created “Richard’s Run for Life” under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to raise funds for research at Moffitt Cancer Center. Many of our lives have been touched by those who have had cancer and I have personally lost family members and dear friends to this horrible disease. My passion to find a cure for cancer is huge and I am motivated to help Moffitt beat this horrible disease.
For the 2012 race we honored 8-year-old pianist, Josalyn Kaldenberg. After her diagnosis of osteosarcoma in her right shoulder, Dr. G. Doug Letson, from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, removed her tumor and replaced her humerus with a titanium version that will expand as she grows. I am proud to report she is doing well and once again playing the piano!
