    Working Up An Appetite

Racing under the Richard’s Run for Life flag always means the best of sustenance for body and soul. Local restaurants donate refreshments and delicacies so that 100% of money raised can go to cancer research. Participants literally “run for life.”

Richard’s Run for Life
Friday, Nov. 4, 2016

The Nov. 6, 2015 Richard’s Run for Life 5K was a huge success. Thank you for your support.

2,000 participants took to the streets of Ybor City in this annual road race to support cancer research. Many more came to lend their support in this important cause.

One hundred percent of every dollar donated and raised will benefit the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program for sarcoma research and the Advanced Prostate Cancer Collaboration (APCC) at Moffitt.

Please mark your calendars for Friday, Nov. 4, 2016.

“Richard’s Run for Life” 5K Race, which is part of the Gonzmart Family Foundation — a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization — was created by Columbia Restaurant President Richard Gonzmart as a way to combine his love for running with his long-time desire to find a cure for cancer.

Each year the Tampa Bay community gets together to run for life through the streets of Ybor City.

It is hard to believe it's been 14 years since I created “Richard’s Run for Life” under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to raise funds for research at Moffitt Cancer Center. Many of our lives have been touched by those who have had cancer and I have personally lost family members and dear friends to this horrible disease. My passion to find a cure for cancer is huge and I am motivated to help Moffitt beat this horrible disease.
– Richard Gonzmart

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.

- Patanjali

This quote was a great motivator for me and still is. Using my experience as a runner and my desire to find a cure for cancer I created “Richard’s Run for Life” under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Creating Richard’s Run was a way to fulfill this goal of finding a cure.

Fourth Annual Richard’s Father’s Day
Family Walk/Jog June 18, 2017

Thank you, runners and walkers! Our third annual Richard’s Father’s Day Walk & Jog is in the books.

We hope you enjoyed the rest of your Father’s Day.

We won’t know exactly how much money we raised at this year’s event until we account for the day-of registrations, but it’s significant. As always, we pay 100 percent of the event costs so that 100 percent of the revenues go to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute. You’re making a difference in the fight against cancer.

Please mark your calendars for Father’s Day, June 18, for the 2017 event.

See you then. We appreciate your support.

“Richard’s Father’s Day Family Walk/Jog” was created by fourth generation co-owner and Columbia Restaurant Group President Richard Gonzmart. His goal is to raise awareness of the disease and the need for testing, as well as to help fund prostate cancer research.

Richard Gonzmart with Doug Federman at Richard's Father's Day Family Walk/Jog. The money is earmarked for the Advanced Prostate Cancer Collaboration at Moffitt. According to the American Cancer Society, one man out of six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one of 35 will die every year. Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in American men, second only to lung cancer.
